A Split-Second's debut single "Flesh" is credited with kick-starting the New Beat genre. 

Legend has it that New Beat was invented in the nightclub Boccaccio in Ghent when DJ Marc Grouls played the 45rpm single record at 33rpm with the pitch control set to +8.
